Vista to ship with Media Center as Standard » VistaKnowledge.com

This hasn’t yet been confirmed by Microsoft themselves, but an announcement is expected in the near future that will confirm Vista will ship with Media Center as standard. At the present time, Windows XP Media Center is only available with media center PCs (or as OEM software if building your own). Vista will however incorporate all the MCE technology as standard, which should help shift some extra copies and entice more people to upgrade.

Media Center allows your PC to acts as a Personal Video Recorder, Music Centre etc and is designed to run on an external display such as a Television. By incorporating MCE into Vista, it must be assumed that Microsoft have finally found a way for it to be more universal with hardware, rather than having specific requirements as it does at present.

The XBox360 also includes MCE capability, and by incorporating the same capabilities into Vista, it is expected to compliment sales of both platforms.
