Dvorak Uncensored » Blog Comment Spam Fix

Most people who run blogs have issues with comment spam in their blogs and there are all sorts of fixes. Marc Perkel at ctyme.com – my host — was floored, he said, when he realized a simple command to the Apache software would kill most of it — and it does indeed work!

Demi and Ashton I do’s? Reports: They did

Hollywood’s most famous December-May couple — Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher — reportedly got married over the weekend in Beverly Hills.
People magazine said 100 people attended the last-minute nuptials of Moore, 42, and Kutcher, 27. According to the magazine, everything was planned in a day, and the wedding was held according to the tenets of Kabbalah, the Jewish mystical faith popular among celebrities. “They are so happy together,” People quoted a source as saying.
Kutcher, a star of TV’s “That ’70s Show,” and Moore, a movie actress, started dating two years ago. Moore was formerly married to Bruce Willis, with whom she had three children: Rumer, 17; Scout, 14, and Tallulah, 11. The kids are said to call Kutcher “MOD” for “My Other Dad.”
Willis was a wedding guest, as were Wilmer Valderrama of “That’70s Show” and actress Lucy Liu, Us Weekly said.
“Most everyone was dressed formally,” a source told Us.

Motorola Motorola RAZR V3x

Motorola Motorola RAZR V3x

Be seen and heard with the Motorola RAZR V3x – the supremely svelte, sophisticated mobile accessory for discerning fashion and tech enthusiasts.  The handset’s intuitive multimedia offerings include: real-time 2-way video calling*, still and moving image capture and editing, and large color display.  Additionally, the Motorola RAZR V3x features SCREEN3*, an innovative technology solution from Motorola that gives you zero-click access to news, sports, entertainment, and other premium content directly from your mobile device home screen* – no buttons to push, no browsers to launch. Motorola’s SCREEN3 puts fresh content at your fingertips.   A 2 mega-pixel camera, Bluetooth® wireless technology* and removable memory add to this lengthy feature set.  Strutting a sleek, slim design and premium functionality, the Motorola RAZR V3x exudes multimedia perfection.

This sure looks slick… I wouldn’t mind one! However, I plan to never buy another Motorola cell phone due to the extreme lack of quality of the V551 that I had. It dropped calls like mad- after 5 minutes or so even if it had all bars shown on the reception area. Anyway, I bought a Nokia 6230b a few months ago and have gotten stellar reception and battery life. It even has an mp3 player and radio on it, which came in handy during the storm once the electricity went out. Like I said above, I would not buy one, but I wouldn’t turn it down if it were a gift :-P

2AM Update

Sep 24, 2005

Things have been relatively quiet here so far. We have 2 big squalls that should be coming in now to our county as well as the downtown area of Houston. Galvestion is getting tons of rain at the moment as well as some damage to business along The Strand. There were also 4 buildings on fire there a few hours ago and it was startling to watch as the firefighters tried to put them out but the wind was blowing the other way.

I can hear the wind outside of the house now and it’s getting loud and rapid. I can’t tell if it’s raining or not, though I imagine that it is. The local news here has been covering everything for 24 hours for at least 2 days now. The only upside of it is that there are no commercials. The field reporters are definitely brave, I know I wouldn’t want to stand in 60-80 MPH winds and rain.

Hopefully “the worst of it” won’t be too bad around here and hopefully won’t last very long. I’ve got Toby and Koa sleeping here next to me to protect me, so hopefully things will be alright.

Hurricane Rita Update

Sep 23, 2005

We have moved out of the 75 MPH wind range as the storm moves more to the north. Good news for us, bad news for east Texas and parts of Louisiana… again. I am hoping that it doesn’t get bad around here and that we don’t lose power (or Internet!).

The first big squall is about to come through our county. More to come later as the hurricane rolls in and we see the worst of things.

abc13.com:The latest news and information on Hurricane Rita for Galveston and Houston

Hurricane Rita is supposed to make landfall on Saturday. As we are only 85 miles from Galveston, it will likely get ugly. Traffic reports are showing jam-packed roads and highways, some parts have even been deemed “parking lots.” Drew is supposed to head up to Arlington, near Dallas, this weekend and will probably end up driving 4 times the normal travel time to get there (roughly 4 hours x 4 = 16 hours +) since the routes available to take are now being used as evacuation routes. At least we have stocked up on the essentials- water, dog food, and peanut M&Ms.

Microsoft-Free Home Part 4: The Linux HTPC–ExtremeTech Build It

Linux is one of the most remarkable phenomena in the recent history of personal computing. In some ways, it’s similar to the original homebrew PC movement of the late 1970s and early 80s. Equal parts cool kids club and grass roots revolution, Linux in its many different forms has proven itself a force to be reckoned with. A highly configurable OS that can both scale up to big enterprise iron and down to handheld devices, Linux can do almost anything. It even powers the most well-known PVR on the planet, TiVo.
