What a boring Halloween! It rained hard here in Houston this afternoon, and a bit this evening, so very few Trick-or-Treaters were out in our neighborhood. We had a total of 5 groups come by bringing the total to 19 kids. There is plenty of extra candy for us to enjoy!
Drew and I had planned to spend the evening playing our favorite game- World of Warcraft. We’re now into hour 7 of downtime and there seems no hope of the servers coming up this hour either. According to the Blizzard forums, it seems every realm is down, so it has been a boring night for the other nerds like us who had planned to play all night.
Ho hum. :(

iTunes On Treo 600 and 650
The latest version of Mass Storage Synchronizer — the add-on from Tea Vui Huang that adapts iTunes for Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung phones — is now compatible with Palm One’s Treo 600 and 650 smartphones. You’ll need RealPlayer for Palm or Pocket Tunes to hear the music. It will be interesting to see how the 650 handles music storage given its non-volatile memory problems.

From Mac OS X Hints- Use Quicktime Player to Export Movies to iTunes Video by Ari Bader-Natal
Apple’s tutorial Creating Video for iPod requires Quicktime 7 Pro, but the free Quicktime Player is equally capable.
I’ve posted both an AppleScript (Export front movie to iTunes.scpt) and an automator workflow (Export selected movies to iTunes.workflow) to get you started.
The Automator workflow enables you right-click on movie files in the Finder to do this, and the AppleScript lets you export the frontmost movie via the scripts menu. One interesting note is that these both work for any media files that Quicktime Player can open.

Popcasts is an aggregator of ‘most popular podcasts’ (e.g. top 10 podcast).
It lets you see at a glance, on just one page, what is popular in dozens of different podcast directories, without you having to constantly check the individual directories for the latest ranking results.
It scans and synchronises with pre-registered podcast directories or ranking sites every hour and generates RSS feeds for each top 10 podcast. The sites registered to Popcasts include: Apple iTunes Podcasting, Odeo, Podnova, podfeed, iPodderX, PodcastPickle, Podcasting NEWS and Podcast Alley.

VideoLAN – News
10 million downloads for VLC 0.8.2 (2005-10-1111 October 2005) VLC 0.8.2 has been downloaded ten million times since its release, on June 26th! The whole VideoLAN team is very happy of this overwhelming result. We would like to thank all of our users, sponsors and partners, who made this result possible.
If you’re not using VLC on your computer to play your videos and other media, you are really missing out! VLC runs on all 3 major platforms- Windows, Mac, and Linux, and it is a FREE program. It supports a wide range of media formats without needing to download additional codecs; even if you don’t know what codec a media file uses, chances are the VLC will be able to play it for you without the need to search the web for the right one. Besides that, what I like about VLC are its streaming capabilities. I often use it to watch a recorded TV show that is stored on our “franken”-box while sitting here at my desk. It saves me the time of trying to copy it over to this computer, and 99.5% of the time the streaming is never interrupted or “jumpy.”
I can’t say enough good things about this free program, only that it is one of the first programs that gets installed if I re-install my OS. Kudos to the VLC team and way to go on 10 million downloads sine June!

IGN: New 007 Reportedly Chosen
New 007 Reportedly Chosen
British tabloid names Bond, James Bond.
by Stax
October 11, 2005 – British tabloid The Daily Mail, the first outlet to report that Pierce Brosnan would not return as 007 for the next installment, now claims that the search for the new James Bond is over and that oft-rumored contender Daniel Craig (Layer Cake) will star in Casino Royale.
“In the end a shortlist of two emerged – Craig and newcomer Henry Cavill. The pair were auditioned again and tried on tuxedos to see how they would look in the quintessential Bond clothing,” the Mail reports. “Craig, 37, whose choice will be confirmed by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson later this week, will be the sixth Bond, but the first blond.”

Incredible amount of tutorials and how-tos for the GNU/Linux distribution Debian.
Debian is my personal favorite, so it’s always nice when sites are discovered with help all in one place. This is definitely a great stop for new Debian users.

I finished the re-design of my portfolio today. I added the majority of projects that I have completed in the last few months and changed the layout of the portfolio page itself. You can access it from the menu bar above or at this link.
