My movie review: Imagine Me & You

By Katie Dixon - In on August 7th, 2006

So, I just got done watching this movie “Imagine Me & You” starring Piper Perabo (who you might remember as the Jersey girl in Coyote Ugly) and Lena Headey (who I think bears a striking resemblance to Keira Knightley). The movie was really good, I’d give it an 8 out of 10 :) For those squeamish about homosexuals, this is not a movie for you!

I found this clip from the movie (just over 6min, about 22MB) which basically convinced me to rent it and watch the whole thing: Download from Rapidshare. You can read my little review ahead- caution: spoilers and screencaps!

The basic premise of the movie is about a married woman named Rachel who meets a woman named Luce at her wedding (Luce is the florist). They seem to share an immediate connection and become close friends. Rachel tries to hook Luce up with her husband’s best friend, but in the meantime, Rachel’s husband, Hector (Heck) who has also become good friends with Luce, finds out that Luce is a lesbian. While Rachel feels her efforts are working to reunite her two friends, she finds out that Luce is gay.

Rachel continues to spend a lot of time with Luce and starts developing unspoken “feelings” for her friend. Luce kinda starts picking up on Rachel’s feelings when Rach tries unsuccessfully to kiss her after one of their nights out together. Rachel’s feelings basically overtake her, and her husband feels neglected since she becomes very distant and rarely wants to be intimate with him.

As you’ll see in that clip I linked to, Rachel goes to Luce’s flower shop to tell her that whatever “this” is, it must end (not that anything big has really happened or even been discussed). There’s a brilliant line in the movie by Rachel during that part (which is in the clip): “So, so I’m here because I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t… You make me feel something, something that I absolutely cannot feel.” So Rach tells her that “it” is over and walks out, but seconds later rushes to Luce and kisses her for the first time. They hear someone come into the shop and it turns out to be Rachel’s husband, there to buy her some flowers to make up for whatever it is he is or isn’t doing that’s causing the distance between them… aww.

I don’t want to give away the ending, but the movie is really cute and Rachel’s husband Heck (played by Matthew Goode) is sooo adorable in that tall skinny dorky way. The movie is set in England, so everyone has a delicious accent- I’m a firm believer that English accents make everything better!
